I attended the Metropolis Comic Convention on March 6th & 7th, 2010. I had a great time, though there were not as many people who attended as I would have liked to have seen. I will mention an artist, Terry Huddleston, extremely cool and very funny guy. During some of the con’s slow points, which were many, he would hang out around the table. But on to the story. Also in attendance at the con was Gary Friedrich. You can read about Gary Friedrich on Wikipedia. Suffice it to say, Gary is the creator of the modern day Ghost Rider character. Gary came to my table and started thumbing though some of my books. He pulled out Original Ghost Rider #8 (I think.) which I believe is a reprint of the first modern Ghost Rider story. Gary said he needed to run back to his table to grab his money. I told him to just take the comic, because it will make for a good con story for me. So, to summarize, I gave Gary Friedrich, the creator of the modern Ghost Rider a copy of a reprint of one of his original stories. The kicker though, was that Gary took the comic back to his table and stuck it in a pile for people to purchase and have signed. Oh well. 🙂
Thats funny. My brother bought an autograph from him. Seemed like a nice enough guy. I hope he dos cons to supplement his income, and hes not one of these guys who creates a popular character but doesn’t get any royalties.
I suspect at this point he may be trying to supplement his income. He filed a lawsuit against Marvel a few years ago, see http://www.awn.com/news/business/ghost-rider-creator-sues-marvel-sony-more, but I never heard what the results were.
It would be interesting to know how that one played out. That could be alot of money to be cheated out of. I don’t know if it would be worth being associated with that Nicholas Cage movie though.
